Located in Gondal, Gujarat. The rectangle-shaped small plot of size 8x14mt this residence opens up on the road on the western sides, the only place to get light and ventilation. Rest three sides were shut with houses wall. Our approach was to design a house with a specific emphasis on natural light and ventilation with the aesthetics of white and blues.
Between the extrovert-designed houses without any natural connection of materials, soft-scape, and minimal light and ventilation, we decided to place an introvert design open up by a courtyard in the center, connecting 1st and 2nd-floor making a path for clear light and ventilation. Substituting the site with a different format of architecture.
The ground floor serves the parking garage and boutique. 1st floor has a living room, kitchen, and bedroom all three opens up with a courtyard where the living room has an additional connection of road. 2nd floor with three bedrooms and corridor all connected to courtyard giving space for communication. Master bedrooms having double height using barrel vault for feeling the volumes making it airy.
Greens are added at a different location to break the static vision and to make space live and natural. Rainwater harvesting is done by stone C channel boxes on the facade with the addition of a waterfall feature. As the water slowly burble down step by step breaking noise from surroundings, internal environment gets calm enhancing different senses.
RCC frame structure with Brick walls using cement mortar and plaster as a construction technique. The main door was made with teak wood from Valsad, The barrel vault was cast with Ferro-cement adding country-tailor tiles as cladding. Wardrobe and different fixed furniture are structured with Kota-stone; similarly, staircase trades are cladded with color Kota-stone to differentiate each step. Vertical louvers of height 16 ft were made and fixed with help of a local blacksmith. The whole house was constructed with the help of local workers with locally available material.
